Coffee producer

Peterson Family

Active origin: Panama
The Peterson Family owns Hacienda La Esmeralda in Boquete, Chiriquí, Panama, an estate credited with the commercial rediscovery of the Geisha variety for specialty coffee. Swedish-American banker Rudolph A. Peterson acquired the farm in 1967, transforming it from a cattle ranch; the family's decision to separate and process Geisha lots from the Jaramillo section independently led to their landmark Best of Panama win in 2004 and a world auction record at that time. The estate operates multiple sections — Jaramillo, Palmira, El Velo, and Cañas Verdes — at elevations up to 1,600 masl.
