Coffee producer

Chacón family

Active origin: Costa Rica
Oscar and Francisca Chacón are third-generation Costa Rican coffee producers who own and operate Las Lajas Micromill in Sabanilla de Alajuela, Central Valley, at 1,450 masl. They are widely credited as pioneers of honey and natural coffee processing in Costa Rica, having introduced these methods in 2008 after a water shortage during an earthquake forced them to experiment. Las Lajas is one of the only certified-organic mills in the region, cultivates Caturra, Catuaí, and Villa Sarchi, and produces around 2,000 exportable bags per year with minimal water usage.
