About

Founded on October 9, 1995 by Doug Zell and Emily Mange in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood, Intelligentsia is one of the original pioneers of third-wave specialty coffee in the United States. The company built its reputation on Direct Trade sourcing — working directly with producers rather than importers — and on precision roasting. Now part of Peet's Coffee (JAB Holdings), Intelligentsia operates coffeebars and training labs in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Austin, Boston, and Seoul.
